OUR DANCE SCHOOL POLICY

Dance journey

Welcome to Kerry Clark Dance

 

We are thrilled to have you join us on your dance journey!

 

Please take a moment to review our policies: 

 

Registration and Fees: 

  • Registration is for one term and is based on an average of nine weeks per term with a minimum number of eight weeks. There is no extra charge for a ten week term. 

  •  All students must register before attending their first class of the term. 

  • A deposit is due at time of registration with balance due week 3 of each term. 

  •  We accept payments via our website booking system, cash or bank transfer. 

  •  Payment plans are available. 

  •  Fees left unpaid at the end of term may incur a late fee charge. 

  • Refunds are not given for students who have registered but do not attend class. Refunds may be available for students who are absent from class due to illness, injury or personal circumstances provided that students are absent for more than three consecutive weeks and administration has been informed at the time. Refunds are not given for students who are absent for holidays. 

  • In cases of an emergency or sickness regarding students and teachers, a make-up class during the term can be arranged but may differ in days and times from original timetable. 

 

Attendance: 

  • Regular attendance is crucial for progress towards IDTA Examinations and end of year Showcase. 

  • Please inform us if a student will be absent from class. 

 

Dress Code: 

  • Appropriate dance attire is required for all classes including footwear. 

  • Hair should be neatly secured away from the face. 

  • No jewelry or watches to be worn. 

  • Uniform is not mandatory but is very much encouraged and is available for purchase through our website store. www.kerryclarkdance.com/shop 

 

Choreography: 

  • Any choreography for classes, shows and competitions remains the property of Kerry Clark Dance or the IDTA. Choreography must not be copied unless agreed by our dance school. 

 

Behavior and Etiquette: 

  • Respect for teachers, fellow students, all other members of our KCDance family is expected at all times. 

  • No disruptive behavior will be tolerated during classes. 

  • Phones should be silenced and kept away during class time. 

  • All students should bring a water bottle to class. 

  • Arrive on time. 

  • All belongings must be labelled, we will not be responsible for lost items. 

 

Parent/Guardian Involvement: 

  • Parents/caregivers are welcome to observe classes during a dedicated watch week each term. 

  • Please refrain from entering the dance hall during class unless invited by the teacher. 

  • We encourage parent/caregiver involvement for show help and fundraising ventures. 

  • Parents/caregivers are required to purchase a ticket for the show – discounted tickets are available for those who volunteer to help backstage during one of the performances. 

  • Non-helpers are not permitted backstage. All children are supervised during show rehearsals and performances. 

 

Health & Safety: 

  • Safety is our top priority. Please follow all instructions given by the teacher. 

  • Report any injuries or concerns to the teacher immediately. 

  • We aim to provide a safe learning environment for all students' however, the art of dance does carry potential risk of injury, parents/caregivers & students must accept this as a rule. 

  • A first aid kit is always available on site. 

  • Please make sure any new medical conditions or treatments are known to the teacher before the start of class. 

  • No pain relief medication such as paracetamol, ibuprofen will be administered unless we have permission to do so from parent/caregiver as per registration form. 

  • Prompt drop off and pick up is required to ensure all students are kept safe during class change overs. Teachers cannot be responsible for students outside of their class timetable. Students in our Little Poppets classes must have parent/caregiver in waiting area during lesson time in case of bathroom break or water refill. 

  • Photographs or videoing of students in class and during shows is not permitted. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone. However, parents/caregivers may film their own child in class during Watch Week which is usually the last week of term. 

 

Performance Opportunities: 

  • Students may have the opportunity to participate in examinations, showcases or competitions. 

  • Participation in such events is optional but highly encouraged. 

  • There will be fees associated with any performance opportunities. 

  • Our Ballet, Tap and Contemporary Modern Jazz Classes follow the International Dance Teachers Association Syllabus. All students are taught with the intention of working towards sitting an IDTA examination at the end of the year. 

  • Correct uniform must be worn for examinations. 

  • Our Showcase takes place early December, made up of a dress rehearsal and two main shows. Students experience a full stage, lights, sound and costume set up in front of an audience. 

  • Extra practice is required during Term 4. 

  • Costumes are hired and must be returned after the last performance.  

 

Private Lessons: 

  • Private lessons can be arranged with the teacher and must be pre-paid. Lessons can be organized for home visits or hall time. 

 

Communication: 

  • We will communicate important updates, events, and reminders via our Kerry Clark Dance Facebook page, Parent Update Facebook group, BAND app, and email newsletters. 

  • Please ensure your contact information is up to date. 

  • We take no responsibility if you do not acknowledge our correspondence.  

 

Social Media:

  • We use social media as a tool for advertising our dance school therefore photos and videos of students are only uploaded if we have permission from parents/caregivers as per students’ registration form.

Studio Facilities: 

  • Please help us maintain a clean and organized dance space. 

  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the dance hall except for a small tidy snack for dancers taking part in multiple classes. 

 

Feedback and Concerns: 

  • We welcome feedback from students and parents/guardians. 

  • If you have any concerns, please address them with the dance school owner or administration department.
